It is my pleasure to welcome you into the National Youth Service Corps. Let me begin by rejoicing with you on the successful completion of the qualifying academic programmes and your subsequent enlistment for the National Service. I commend your patriotic zeal as demonstrated through your acceptance of deployment and prompt report to the Camp.

My dear compatriots, the NYSC has four cardinal programmes: the Orientation, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service and Passing out/winding up activities.

The Orientation Course is aimed at introducing you to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme. Highlights of the Course include leadership coaching, paramilitary drills, physical trainings and sensitization on topical national issues, amongst others. These are designed to equip you for the tasks of the Service Year.

I enjoin you to avail yourselves of this unique opportunity by participating actively in all the Camp activities as they will go a long way in enabling you to realize your potentials.

Your deployment away from your States of origin and your being in the camp from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds are part of our deliberate policies aimed at promoting national unity and integration.

These will enable you have broader understanding of the country, and promote the culture of working together in an atmosphere of friendship, peace, harmony, and shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.

I am impressed by the high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated so far. It is my hope that you will sustain these while you also familiarize yourselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws.

You must adhere to all camp rules and be obedient to the course officials. Let me also warn you that vices such as cultism and drug abuse are strictly prohibited on Camp. Furthermore, you should avoid using the social media to spread fake news and other negative purposes.

I encourage you to avail yourselves of opportunities for self-employment offered through our Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. There are several skill areas you can choose from for hands-on training in the Orientation Camp.

You are also expected to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 preventive measures throughout the Orientation period.

I wish to conclude by wishing you all a successful Orientation Course.

Thank you and God bless.
