Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) visited by 5 member team from Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs to embark on research to evolve new strategies for effective local government administration in Nigeria. 

The Vice-chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Prof. Kabiru Bala, has described the field trip by team of researchers from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, as apt. 

Addressing the team, Prof. Bala, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, decried the neglect of the third-tier of government throughout the country. 

He, however, applauded the ministry’s effort for mandating its Department of Inter-Governmental Affairs to embark on research to evolve new strategies for effective local government administration in Nigeria. 

The team’s assignment includes review of the existing modus operandi, and to identify and analyze recent innovative developments, as well as to make recommendations for new approaches, in enhancing local government administration in Nigeria.

The team will be on ground from today, 28th to 30th March, 2023 specifically at the Department of Local Government and Development Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. 

The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University Management, particularly the Department, thanked the Ministry for what he described as “resuscitation” of over 13 years relationship, which he said was an issue of national development that ABU must support.

He thanked the Ministry for all the projects and structures put in place in the Department, in addition to the annual grants for maintenance of the Department, as well as conferences and seminars all sponsored by the Ministry. 

Earlier in his address, the leader of the team, Nkanor Umoh, thanked the University Management for the cordial relationship between the ministry and the University. He announced that the forthcoming stakeholders conference coming up with foremost Nigerian universities in attendance, will be coordinated by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. It is slated for 18th and 19th of April, 2023.
