In a keynote address, a former Director at the University Advancement Centre and Professor of Biochemistry, Professor Akintunde Akindahunsi, congratulated the graduands and newly inducted students. In his address titled Alumni in the 21st century University Administration defined University as an institution of higher learning authorized to award degrees and certificates. He said because the University is a complex environment it makes it vulnerable to challenges such as public funding, market pressure, declining public funding and interrogation with industry.

Akindahunsi said one of the responses to the challenges is the establishment of the UAC, which is saddled with the responsibility of fund raising and fostering partnership.

He emphasized cordial staff/student relationship where students should be treated with respect, without ignoring discipline as this will make them remember their Alma matter after graduation. He said University Alumni relations should include respect and the University should see Alumni as stake holders by furnishing them with necessary information. Professor Akindahunsi said University Alumni relations is usually a win-win situation for both Alumni and the University as some institutions like Harvard and Oxford have benefited from Alumni endowment funds immensely.
