Facts

The state-owned university of Kogi, Nigeria, is situated in Anyigba, Kogi State Capital. It was created in 1999 by the former governor of the state, Prince Abubakar Audu.

In 2002, it was named Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) after the then-governor of Kogi State, who oversees the creation of the institution. It was renamed Kogi State University in 2003.

In 2017, in conjunction with the state state government’s refusal to pay wages for many months, the KSU Committee on Academic Workers Union for University became thrown into an economic crisis.

Academic study began in April 2000 at Kogi State University in the following faculties: Faculty of Agriculture, Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Law, School of Management and Natural Science School. The university also integrated the Faculty of Medicine with large office and laboratory facilities.

Under the new university administration, a Centre for Pre-degree and Diplomate Research was set up to manage certificate and pre-graduate programmes. If pre-graduate students excel in the internal exams they do not need to write post-UTME examinations, they will be offer an immediate admission to their degree programme.

While the biggest problem facing state run universities in comparison to federal universities was inadequate financing, KSU (by Knowledge for Impact Foundation) has been accorded the university which is best prepared and has timely implementation.
