NUC Assessors Commends Covenant University's Readiness for Distance Learning Programmes

A team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on an assessment visit to Covenant University’s Open Distance Learning facility has commended the level of investment that has gone into making the centre ready for the commencement of open distance learning.
The team led by Mrs. Modupe Asebiomo said their assignment was to check the readiness of the e-learning facilities at Covenant and the adherence of the leadership of the centre to recommendations made during the course of previous visits.
Mrs. Asebiomo, who came in the company of Dr. Irene Angela and Mr. Odegah Steve, said after checking the books of the centre, and visiting the server room, the Learning Management System (LMS), the library's e-resources, and the power and bandwidth availability on campus, they were convinced of the readiness of the university to drive a full-bodied distance learning programme.
In order to bolster existing infrastructure, she called for a consistent upgrade of the existing infrastructure to meet the aspiration of an evolving ICT-driven world and work towards the full automation of the current e-learning structure in the University.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, appreciated the team for undertaking the task of ensuring the academic offerings of the University are in line with what is obtainable anywhere in the world and commended the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, for providing quality leadership to the Commission and Nigerian universities in general.
Professor Adebayo, who was in the company of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olujide Adekeye, and Director, Covenant University Distance Learning Centre, Dr. Mayowa Agboola, said the management of Covenant University was open to the constructive criticism of the Commission tailored towards a successful kick-off of the open distance learning centre of the University.
According to him, a visit such as this is a peer review mechanism exercise that will help Covenant improve on her operational framework and deliver maximum quality to millions in Nigeria and Africa who desire quality distance learning education.
The meeting had in attendance the Director, Academic Planning Unit, Professor Philips Aizebokhai; Director, Quality Assurance, Professor Olubanke Ogunlana; Director, Centre for Systems and Information Services, Engr Boladele Akanle; and representative of the Centre for Learning Resources, Pastor Goodluck Ifijeh.
