Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, Professor Simeon Adebayo Bamire, assures newly admitted students in Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo they made the right choice during matriculation.

The Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, Professor Simeon Adebayo Bamire, has assured newly admitted students in Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, that they have made right choice by coming into the institution.

Prof. Bamire, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Education, OAU Ile-Ife, Prof. B.A Omoteso, made the remarks in a speech delivered at the 2022/2023 matriculation ceremony, held for 2,442 (Two thousand, four hundred and forty-two) students admitted for the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes in ACE Ondo, which took placed on Thursday 22 June 2023 in the college.

Describing Adeyemi College of Education Ondo as one of the best college of education in Nigeria, the OAU VC assured the students of bright future, saying since the institution is currently affiliated with OAU, the certificate that those of them that were admitted for degree programmes would receive at the end of their studies, “would have Obafemi Awolowo University written on it”.

While stressing the need for the students, to always be conscious of the fact that their primary aim of coming to the college is to study, and bag degrees at the end of their training, the University Administrator further advised them to regard other activities beside academics as secondary.

Prof. Bamire also told   the matriculating students not to get involved in any form of misconduct, while equally admonishing them to abstain from cultism, vandalism, hooliganism and any other forms of anti-social behaviour.

The OAU VC gave 14 tips on how students could succeed in their studies to include the need  for them to be proactive in learning, understanding that learning is an active process, identifying learning goals and styles as well as development of study plan, making effective use of technology, good management of time  to mention but few.

Also in his address of welcome, the Provost of the College, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, congratulated the students and urged them to make best use of opportunity given to them to study in the institution.

Akintunde informed the students of the importance of matriculation oath read by them, saying by reciting its contents, and appending their signatures, they have signed a legal bond with the college, which entails that they should become good ambassadors within and outside the institution.

While admonishing the students to shun bad friends and avoid external influence that could affect their academic career and put the name of the college at disrepute, the College Chief Executive, warned that the institution would not hesitate to sanction anyone found contravening its rules and regulations.

Dr. Akintunde  harped on the need for the students to take their studies seriously by ensuring that they complete registration of their courses within the stipulated timeline slated for the exercise saying “ there is no way you will have your results computed without registration” he remarked.

The Provost, however, advised the matriculating students to always avail themselves of services provided by officials from the College Division of Student affairs, and Centre for Counseling and Human Development, by going to their offices whenever they are confronted with any issue relating to their studies, and relationship with other students in the College for possible solution, he prayed that Almighty would grant them success in their academic pursuits.

The event which held in the college at the Babatunde Ipaye Lecture theatre was attended by principal officers of the College including the Provost, Dr. Samuel Akintunde; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede represented by Mrs. Tugbiyele Adeyinka Omolade; Bursar, Mr. Ganiyu Olaniyi Abdul and Librarian, Mr. Azino Akpokuriere.

Others were representative of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr. AbdulAzeez AbdulRahman, Deans and Directors, Deputy Registrars, Heads of Departments, Directorates, Divisions and units as well as staff and students of the College among others.
