I’m happy to let you know that  the Middle East & Africa GNI Innovation Challenge is now open for applications! The Challenge will fund projects that inject new ideas into the news industry.  It is an important new program from the Google News Initiative,  our global effort to build a stronger future for journalism.

We are inviting proposals from news organizations to submit projects that help build a more sustainable ecosystem for digital news in the region through development of reader engagement and new business models. A panel of Googlers and other tech industry executives will review the submissions and fund selected projects up to $150,000 and finance up to 70 percent of the total project cost.

How to apply?

Applications  are now open, and the deadline to submit is Monday 2 September. For more information on eligibility, rules and criteria, sample projects and funding details, head over to our how to apply page and click here to view the full list of application questions.
