Stakeholders Charges Members on Attitude, High Level of Professionalism at ANUPA Discourse

Members of the University of Lagos Chapter of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) have been encouraged to imbibe the right attitude and consciously exhibit high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The charge was made during the Chapter’s discourse themed “Future Ready Administrators” held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, inside the Senate Chamber of the Senate House of the university.

The professional discourse, which was a hybrid event, had in attendance administrators across all levels. It featured the delivery of insightful and well-articulated presentations by the Chief Executive Officer of Way-Up Consulting Limited, Mr. Ayo Ashade, and Deputy Registrar, Staff Training and Development, University of Lagos, Mrs. Josephine Aderonke Asiwaju.   

Mr. Ashade’s presentation focused on the importance of being prepared for the future as an Administrator in the wake of current economic realities.

According to him, “As a professional, you can only care for what interests you. If you know something that interests you, take steps to build or develop the skill that is the starting point for tomorrow that is coming”.

The Financial and Agribusiness Consultant with a passion for SME growth using micro and cooperative society platforms shared some helpful tips that can be adopted in preparing for the future.

While speaking on the topic: Your Attitude determines Your Altitude, Mrs.  Aderonke Josephine Asiwaju’s presentation underscored the age-long saying that attitude is one honest fact that workers need to adopt as a philosophy for outstanding performance in their workplace.

In a no-holds-barred presentation, Mrs. Asiwaju dedicated the session to sensitizing administrators about imbibing the right attitude.

According to her “…teamwork fosters a strong, collaborative work culture, and an administrator must possess it to be able to implement his/her set objectives.  She made far-reaching suggestions to build and maintain a positive attitude at the workplace. 

Earlier, the Deputy Provost, College of Medicine, Prof Osaretin Albert Taiwo Ebuehi who represented the Provost emphasized the need for ANUPA to continue to promote the training of its members by organizing discourse of this nature for the exchange of ideas in the development and management of higher education.

Professor Ebuehi tasked administrators to carry out their duties responsibly and warned them against corruption and acts which were brick walls to the effective running of a University.

Acting Chairman of the branch, Mr. Olakunle Babatunde in his address spoke on the importance of the discourse. He explained that it was organized to provide leadership and professional skills for administrators, as part of efforts to build their capacity. 

In her address, the Acting Registrar of the University, Mrs. Olakunle Esther Makinde described administrators as essential components crucial to the progress of a University. She emphasized that an administrator must know how to deal with a variety of personalities and be a model who ensures that all staff operate within the University’s laws, rules, and standards.

On her part, former Registrar of the university, Dr. Taiwo Folasade Ipaye, FNIM, in her remarks, spoke on a number of factors administrators must embrace to remain relevant. She admonished the seniors in attendance to mentor younger administrators while the younger ones should try to always make themselves available to be mentored by their senior colleagues.

The ex-Registrar and current Director at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre (AMDRC) stressed the need for administrators to do things right for the universities to become substantial solution providers ahead of the future.
