The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has requested the assistance of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in constructing a standard library and senate building in the university.

The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has requested the assistance of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in constructing a standard library and senate building in the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Obi, made the appeal during the 35th convocation ceremony of UNICAL. The convocation was held for first-degree graduates of the university, masters, diplomas and postgraduate diplomas; while the award of doctorate degrees was scheduled for Saturday.

Obi also called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to assist in the infrastructure development of the institution.

The VC further called on well-meaning individuals to come to the institution's aid in constructing hostel accommodations for its students, reiterating the readiness to cooperate with the individuals or bodies in achieving this. She noted that the university had only 2,400 bed spaces to accommodate a population of over 36,000 students.

Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Chancellor of the university, advised the graduating students to make the best choices on the paths they have chosen.

Ado-Bayero, who is also the Emir of Kano, lauded the VC for her remarkable leadership and for transforming the institution within the two years of assuming office. He stated that his vision as the university's chancellor is to make the institution the best in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Cleverty Njong, a graduating student who had a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.00 in Law, Master's degree, said his success came as a result of dedication and commitment to academic activities.
