A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, Dr.  Olanike Maria Buraimoh, has been appointed as an Applied Microbiology International (AMI) Global Ambassador.

Dr. Buraimoh, who is also a member of Nigeria Society for Microbiology and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), is an accomplished researcher in environmental microbiology and Acting Managing Director of the University of Lagos Ventures.

Her research areas comprise of bioremediation of polluted ecosystems and the bioconversion of wastes into value-added products as sustainable solutions to climate change with the aim of finding eco-friendly ways of addressing environmental issues, and contributing to a greener & more sustainable world.

Applied Microbiology International, (formally known as the Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM)), is the oldest microbiology society in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1931 with an objective of advancing the science of microbiology and its application to the environment, human and animal health, agriculture and industry for the benefit of the public. AMI is an active member of the Royal Society of Biology, and the Federation of European Microbiological Societies.
