UNILAG Senates Celebrates Prof. Ibidapo-Obe, on his retirement as He bows out of service.

“I am retired but not tired.” Those were the words of Professor Akinola Ibidapo Obe as the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, celebrated him ahead of his retirement from active university service.

Standing tall and agile among other academics in the hallowed Senate Chamber, the renowned Professor of Public Law, Criminology and Criminal Justice also expressed gratitude to the University Senate and UNILAG community for the privilege of growth, and career fulfillment.

Earlier in her remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayo Atsenuwa, who presided over the Senate Meeting as Acting Vice-Chancellor, congratulated Professor Ibidapo-Obe for his illustrious service to the university, and contributions to the body of knowledge. She prayed that God grants him good health, as well as longevity to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

Born on Monday, October 5, 1953, Professor Akinola Ibidapo-Obe obtained his LL.B Degree from the University of Lagos in 1977 and LL. M. with Distinction from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), in 1980. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in July, 1978. His areas of interest include African Law, Law and Religion, Human Rights, Criminology and Constitutional Law.

The Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom who joined the services of the University of Lagos in 1989, became a Professor in 2011. During the course of his outstanding career at the university, Professor Ibidapo-Obe held several positions including Head, Department of Public Law and Dean, Faculty of Law, among others.
