Lagos State University Management, VC Charges Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (IIVC) Members As LASU Begins Indigeneship Verification Exercise for applicants of Lagos State origin.

With the commencement of the Indigeneship Verification Exercise for applicants of Lagos State origin for the 2023/2024 Admission Exercise exactly one week away, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM has charged members of the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (IIVC) to be thorough and above board in the conduct of the exercise. She also tasked them to expeditiously screen candidates as the four weeks earmarked for the conduct of the exercise is sacrosanct. 

She made the statements on Monday, 17th July 2023 when she received members of the IIVC at her office ahead of the commencement of the screening exercise. 

While making her remarks in the presence of other members of the University Management, the VC thanked the Committee members for their service to the University over the past few years while assuring them that the Administration will continue to pay attention to their welfare. She reminded the members of the need to implement her earlier directive to also clear applicants whose mothers are first generation indigenes of Lagos State, irrespective of the State of Origin of their fathers.

Finally, she urged them to go back to their respective divisions and sensitize admission seekers on the need for hard work and commitment to learning in order to significantly increase the population of Lagosians seeking admission into the University.

Chairman of the IIVC, Dr. Maruf Animashaun, in his address, reiterated that one of the objectives for the establishment of the University is to provide opportunity for citizens of Lagos State to access higher education regardless of social status or income. He assured that the Committee would be diligent in executing it's assignment by ensuring that all applicants who are indigenes of Lagos are not denied their rights.

Some of the Sub-Committee Chairmen, who also shared their views thanked the VC and the Management for giving them the necessary support to perform their obligations without interference. 

The Indigeneship Verification Exercise would hold for a duration of four weeks from Monday, 24th July to Thursday, 17th August 2023 with registration portal set to open on Thursday, 20th July 2023.
