Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Center in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Learning For Open Distance And Flexible E-Learning Holds Colloquium.

On August 2nd, 2023, the Yaba College of Technology in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Learning hosted a train–the–trainer- Colloquium on writing for Open Distance Flexible e-Learning High-Impact Journals. The event was facilitated by Professor Som Naidu from the Commonwealth of Learning(CoL). Participants in the colloquium comprises Lecturers from Yabatech and Federal College of Education(Technical) Akoka.

 The colloquium aimed to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to publish in high-impact journals took place in the Academic Board Room. During the sessions, Professor Som Naidu, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor (Flexible Learning), and Director of the Center of Flexible Learning at the University of the South Pacific explained that publishing in high-impact journals requires a lot of effort and patience.

 He also shared tips on how to improve the quality of research papers and how to select the right journals for publication. 

The Rector, Dr. (Engr.) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul who declared the ceremony open in his remark highlighted the need for trainers to embrace e-learning as the way forward in today's educational world. According to the Rector, "The time has come for Yabatech and the nation to consider Flexible e-Learning as the new normal in higher education." He added that in this digital era, students and universities worldwide no longer rely on the age-old, one-dimensional, chalk-and-board methods of teaching and learning. Instead, they have seen the advantage of e-learning and have started to embrace it. 

The participants described the colloquium as informative and engaging. They appreciated the rector and management for the opportunity to learn from an expert in the field.  Many noted they left the event feeling motivated and inspired and are now ready to publish their research work in high-impact journals.

Overall, the train-the-trainer colloquium was a huge success. It provided participants with valuable insights and skills that will prepare them to achieve their publishing goals.
