AKCILS Acting Provost Receives Library Staff, Pledges Support for Library Development

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, AKCILS, Dr. Ali Tamasi Muaz, has described the library as the “soul” of every educational institution, stressing its importance to effective teaching, learning, research, and academic development.

Dr. Muaz made the remarks on Monday, 8th September, 2026, while receiving members of the College Library Department who paid him a courtesy visit at the Majidadin Kauran Katsina Conference Hall of the College.

The Acting Provost expressed appreciation to the library staff for the visit and urged them to redouble efforts towards the judicious utilisation of the facility by students and researchers.

He particularly commended the College Librarian, Dr. Fatima Salihu, for identifying the major needs of the library and presenting them to the College management for consideration and possible intervention.

Dr. Tamasi assured the library staff that the management would consider allocating resources to address some of the challenges facing the department. He also directed the College Librarian to formally submit the needs requiring urgent management attention for prompt consideration.

He emphasized the importance of a functional and well-equipped library in supporting students and staff, noting that the development of the library would contribute significantly to the overall academic progress of the College.

Earlier in her remarks, the College Librarian, Dr. Fatima Salihu, said the staff visited the Acting Provost to congratulate him on his appointment and to formally present some of the challenges confronting the library department.

Dr. Salihu appealed to the College management to provide a reliable and sustainable electricity supply for the library to enable staff and students to make effective use of its facilities.

She also called for the renovation and improvement of the e-library, saying that upgrading the facility would enhance access to electronic academic resources.

The Librarian further appealed for the recruitment of additional professional library staff to strengthen the department's capacity to provide efficient services to students and members of staff.

She also highlighted the need for adequate security around the library to ensure the safety of users, staff, and valuable resources.
