JABU Internal Audit Staff Participates in OAU 2026 Annual Audit Lecture

Joseph Ayo Babalola University in its drive for staff capacity building, sponsored members of its Internal Audit Department to participate in the 2026 Annual Audit Lecture organized by the Directorate of Internal Audit, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, as part of the University's 65th Anniversary celebration. The lecture was held on Thursday, 16th July, 2026, at the Africa Centre of Excellence, OAU, Ile-Ife.

The lecture, titled "Tax Reforms as an Instrument of Good Governance: The Role of Internal Audit in Enhancing Transparency," brought together internal auditors, financial administrators, and other stakeholders from tertiary institutions across Nigeria to deliberate on the critical role of internal audit in promoting accountability, transparency, and effective governance.

One of the resource persons, Professor Mrs. Mary Salawu, emphasized that Internal Audit Departments should be continuously empowered through adequate training on tax reforms and their economic benefits. According to her, this would enable auditors to provide informed and value-added support to management in ensuring sound financial governance.

She further stressed the need for auditors to leverage technology by promoting the digitalization of transactions, noting that technology-driven audit processes enhance transparency, improve efficiency, and strengthen accountability.

Professor Salawu also highlighted key pillars of good governance, including independent assurance, periodic review of high-risk areas, and continuous tax compliance, describing these as essential responsibilities of an effective Internal Audit function in today's evolving financial environment.
