NSUK Students Win Five Awards at 2026 JCI Northern Conference in Abuja

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has recorded another significant achievement in youth leadership and community development, with its Junior Chamber International Nigeria (JCIN) chapter emerging as one of the biggest winners at the 2026 JCI Nigeria Northern Conference held in Abuja from August 20 to 23, 2026.

The NSUK chapter won five prestigious awards at the conference in recognition of its leadership, innovation and community impact, further highlighting the University as an institution that provides opportunities for students to develop leadership capacity and contribute meaningfully to society.

The achievement also reflects the leadership philosophy of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, whose administration has continued to encourage students to combine academic excellence with leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, community service and other forms of societal engagement.

JCIN NSUK won the following awards:

???? Best Local Community Impact Project – Feed the Needy Project 1.0

???? Best Inter-Organization Collaboration Project – Keffi Youth Leadership Summit 2.0

???? Best Local Global Goals Project – Canva Leadership Workshop 2.0

???? Best Local Organization President – JCIN Cllr. Zubair Sunusi

???? Most Outstanding Member in the North – Umar Faruq Abubakar, Vice President, JCIN NSUK

The awards recognise the chapter’s contributions to community development, leadership training, inter-organisational collaboration and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition to the five awards, three members of JCIN NSUK were decorated as JCI Nigeria Counselors, while another member received the title of JCI Nigeria Ambassador.

The newly decorated JCI Nigeria Counselors are:

• Nafisa Abdulhamid

• Zanira Tanko Zakari

• Umar Faruq Abubakar

Also decorated as a JCI Nigeria Ambassador was:

• Nasir Hassan Bello

The four honourees were also presented with Certificates of Lifetime Membership in JCI Nigeria in recognition of their enduring commitment, service and contributions to the JCI movement.

The latest achievement comes amid the University’s renewed emphasis on holistic student development under the leadership of Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman.

Beyond academic activities, the Vice-Chancellor’s administration has continued to create opportunities for students to develop practical skills, demonstrate leadership, participate in community service and engage in initiatives designed to prepare them for life beyond the University.

Through these opportunities, NSUK students have continued to distinguish themselves in areas including academics, leadership, innovation, sports, entrepreneurship and community development.

The success of JCIN NSUK therefore goes beyond the collection of awards, as it demonstrates the potential of students when provided with opportunities to lead, serve and innovate.

Reacting to the recognition, JCIN Cllr. Zubair Sunusi, who emerged as the Best Local Organization President, described the award as a victory for the entire JCIN NSUK family.

He dedicated the recognition to members who contributed to the organisation’s success, noting that the achievements were made possible through collective sacrifice, commitment and teamwork.

He also appreciated the Management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, for providing an enabling environment for students to lead, serve, innovate and create meaningful impact beyond the classroom.

According to him, the chapter has continued the legacy of its predecessors and remains committed to raising the standard even further.

The five awards and multiple leadership recognitions recorded at the 2026 JCI Nigeria Northern Conference further reinforce NSUK’s growing reputation for nurturing confident, responsible and service-oriented young leaders.

The University Management congratulated the leadership and members of JCIN NSUK on the achievement and encouraged them to sustain the spirit of excellence, service and innovation.
