AFUED Introduces New Security Measures, Moves to Regulate Vehicles and Commercial Motorcycles

The management of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, has announced plans to introduce new measures aimed at strengthening security and improving traffic management on the university campus.

The decision was disclosed following a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The meeting was attended by principal officers of the university, leaders of workers’ unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).

Also present were members of the Students’ Union Government Executive and the Head of the university’s Security Unit.

According to a release issued after the meeting, the university management reviewed the security situation on campus and identified the need for tighter control of vehicles and motorcycles entering and leaving the institution.

As part of the new measures, students will be prohibited from bringing vehicles onto the campus. Students who own motorcycles, however, will only be permitted to use them on campus after registering with the university’s Security Unit.

The management also announced restrictions on the entry of visitors’ vehicles after office hours, stating that visitors with vehicles would only be allowed to enter the campus between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

To improve traffic flow and campus safety, the university plans to introduce a vehicle access control system under which vehicles will be screened and issued tallies or other identification devices before being granted access to the campus.

The university also plans to register all commercial motorcycle operators operating on campus and issue them with appropriate uniforms and stickers for identification.

Similarly, staff members who own motorcycles will be required to register them with the university’s Security Unit and obtain stickers as part of the new security measures.

All vehicle operators driving within the university campus will also be required to possess valid driving licences. The Security Unit has been directed to enforce compliance with traffic rules and regulations by motorists.

The management explained that the new traffic policy would help prevent unauthorised vehicles and motorcycles from entering the campus and make it easier to identify offenders in cases of reckless driving or riding, thereby facilitating appropriate sanctions.

The university also disclosed plans to establish clearly defined speed limits on roads across the campus.

Representatives of the Students’ Union have been directed to constitute a task force in conjunction with the Security Unit to review and recommend appropriate speed limits and sanctions for offenders and reckless drivers.

The university management further warned against the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, cigarette smoking and reckless driving on campus.

It stated that anyone found violating the university’s rules and regulations would face appropriate sanctions.
