UNILAG Business School Participants Embark On Study Tour To LADOL And Lekki Free Zone

The University of Lagos Business School (ULBS) participants of the Executive Master of Urban Logistics and Transport Management and the Doctor of Urban Logistics and Transport Management programmes have undertaken a study field trip to the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL) and the Lekki Free Zone.

The academic exercise was designed to bridge theory with practice, broaden understanding of offshore supply chains, and expose participants to real-world logistics operations.

Led by the Programme Coordinator, Associate Professor of Transport Planning and Logistics, Dr. Olayinka Agunloye, the team convened at the LADOL Jetty in Ikoyi, where they were ferried to the facility after undergoing mandatory safety and security briefings. These measures, which included the use of life jackets, reflect LADOL’s robust safety culture that has maintained a 12-year record of zero casualties.

During the visit, participants toured LADOL’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, including warehouses, warehouse management systems, and cold chain logistics facilities. They observed the deployment of First-In-First-Out (FIFO) operations and specialized handling procedures for temperature-sensitive goods and equipment.

The study team also engaged with practical demonstrations of transportation, warehousing, order processing, and information management supported by advanced IT systems. These sessions provided insight into the benefits of integrated logistics operations and their critical role in specialized supply chains.

The ULBS study tour served as both a professional learning opportunity and a reinforcement of classroom concepts, equipping participants with the knowledge and exposure required to address real-world challenges in logistics and transport management.
