Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) has recorded another international milestone following the admission of its College of Medicine as a Full Member of the Consortium of Medical Schools–Africa (COMS-A).

The Certificate of Full Membership was presented to the Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Phillip Dowerife Eyimina, during the MedEd Africa 2026 Conference and the COMS-A Annual General Meeting, held from July 5 to 8, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The membership places Bayelsa Medical University among a network of leading medical schools across Africa committed to advancing medical education, research, innovation, and healthcare leadership through collaboration.

As a full member of COMS-A, the university will have access to expanded opportunities for academic partnerships, collaborative research, faculty and student exchanges, and participation in initiatives aimed at strengthening health professions education across the continent.

The university described the achievement as a reflection of its commitment to excellence in medical education, innovation, and the training of highly skilled healthcare professionals capable of addressing Africa's healthcare challenges.

The management also congratulated the Provost, the College of Medicine, and the entire university community on the achievement, describing it as another significant step in the institution's growing international recognition.
