COE Akwanga Holds Examination Orientation for Lecturers and Invigilators Ahead of Second Semester Exams

The Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga, COEA, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, conducted a comprehensive examination orientation programme for lecturers and invigilators as part of measures to strengthen examination administration, uphold academic integrity and ensure a seamless conduct of the 2025/2026 Second Semester examinations.

Addressing participants, the Provost of the College, Dr. Barnabas Nuhu Barau Best, reaffirmed the strategic importance of the programme. He stressed that examination orientation should be institutionalised as a continuous culture to keep academic staff abreast of established procedures, responsibilities and emerging challenges in examination management.

The Provost also briefed lecturers on the College's preparations toward the actualisation of its dual mandate, expressing confidence in the commitment of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State to assent to the enabling bill. He advocated for a special ceremony to formally commemorate the signing of the bill.

Dr. Barau Best highlighted a number of institutional milestones recorded in preparation for the dual mandate, particularly developments in the College's digital and technical infrastructure. These include the establishment of an ICT Digital Space to accommodate the newly acquired Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and Digital Content Room, alongside the Computer and Robotics Laboratory. 

He disclosed that arrangements were also being concluded for the establishment of a skills acquisition facility in collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE. He added that Innoson Kiara Academy is expected to commence academic activities at the College following an official engagement by the Dean, Vocational and Technical Education.

The Provost further charged newly appointed lecturers to uphold professional ethics, institutional decorum and respect for senior academic staff. He emphasised the pivotal role of Chief Lecturers in the College's academic hierarchy and described examinations as a fundamental instrument for assessing students' academic performance and determining the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. He urged lecturers and invigilators to accord the exercise the highest level of diligence and professionalism.

The technical sessions featured presentations by Mr. Faith Emmanuel, Deputy Director, ICT, who demonstrated the functionality and operational relevance of the newly installed CBT Content Room. He highlighted its potential to enhance efficiency, reduce processing time and strengthen the credibility of computer-based examinations.

Members of the Examination Committee, Chief Mrs. Florence E. Muazu and Chief Andrew Kuje Namo, also sensitised invigilators on common examination malpractice techniques and the critical measures required to prevent them.

The facilitators charged invigilators to remain vigilant, maintain accurate examination timing, ensure that candidates are allowed to utilise their allotted time fully, and strictly adhere to approved examination protocols.

The orientation reaffirmed the College's commitment to credible, transparent and hitch-free examinations as it prepares for the 2025/2026 Second Semester examinations.
