Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho Makes History as Pioneer Students Attend Inaugural Lecture
The Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO) reached a historic milestone on Monday, March 23, 2026, as its first-ever cohort of students attended their inaugural lecture, officially signaling the commencement of academic activities at the newly established institution.
The atmosphere on campus was charged with excitement as approximately 1,300 pioneer students, admitted into six colleges including Science and Computing and Engineering and Technology, began their academic journey. This transition from administrative preparation to active learning follows months of intensive facility upgrades and NUC resource verification.
Addressing the students during the landmark event, the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olaniyi Jacob Babayemi, delivered an inspiring charge to the "trailblazing" class.
“The students who attend the first class are already working towards a First Class,” Prof. Babayemi stated, encouraging the pioneers to set a high standard of excellence from the very first day. He reaffirmed the university's mission to produce graduates equipped with the practical and technological skills necessary to address Nigeria’s modern agricultural and food security challenges.
The university management, led by Prof. Babayemi, emphasized that this takeoff is not just an academic success but a catalyst for economic growth in the Oke-Ogun region.
