Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET) Warns Staff Against Misconduct at Maiden Matriculation
The Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), established in Ogoniland, held its historic maiden matriculation ceremony on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, where the university leadership issued a stern warning against unethical practices.
Pioneer Vice-Chancellor Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom formally admitted 1,004 pioneer students into the university’s academic community, marking a definitive milestone for the institution and the Niger Delta region.
During the ceremony, Professor Mmom declared that the institution would uphold the highest ethical standards. He explicitly warned staff and students that the university would not tolerate:
Sex-for-Grades & Sexual Harassment: Prof. Mmom and Pro-Chancellor Prof. Don Baridam emphasized that "randy Romeos" demanding sexual gratification would face severe sanctions.
Extortion & "Sorting": Both teaching and non-teaching staff were warned against extorting money from students in exchange for grades.
Academic Misconduct: The sale of handouts, unapproved manuals, and books is strictly prohibited.
Social Vices: The university has established a zero-tolerance policy for cultism, drug abuse, and examination malpractice.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa (represented by Mr. Sunday Ajide), noted that FUET was established to provide specialized expertise in tackling climate change and environmental pollution in the Niger Delta.
The university has commenced activities with six faculties and 28 departments, including Agriculture, Allied Health Sciences, Engineering Technology, Environmental Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Management Technology.
Despite the successful launch, Vice-Chancellor Mmom noted that the institution is yet to receive a formal take-off grant or allocation from the Federal Government, prompting the launch of a ₦5 billion Endowment Fund to support research and infrastructural development.
