The Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Chukwuemeka Christopher Ibeziako, Esq., has called for strengthened collaboration with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) to ensure effective voter sensitization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in the VC’s Conference Room, Mr. Ibeziako emphasized the importance of leveraging the University’s influence within its community to promote voter registration, education, and participation. The visit coincided with the second phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, aimed at enrolling citizens who have turned 18 since the last registration or those who missed previous opportunities.
The REC praised MOUAU for its longstanding support, noting the University’s contribution of staff as ad hoc personnel in past elections and describing the institution as a reliable partner in ensuring credible electoral processes in Abia State.
In response, Prof. Iwe reaffirmed the University’s commitment to supporting INEC initiatives, pledging that students would be encouraged to register and update their voter records. He further confirmed that MOUAU facilities and staff would remain available for INEC activities whenever required.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to INEC for its sensitization efforts and commended Mr. Ibeziako for his dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
This engagement underscores MOUAU’s continued role as a strategic partner in promoting civic responsibility and credible elections within Abia State.
