The Plateau State government has awarded contracts for the construction of 55 new secondary schools across the state. Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced this during the signing of the contract documents on Wednesday in Jos.

Governor Mutfwang stated that this initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to overhauling and improving the education sector. The projects will be implemented under the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), funded by the World Bank. The governor emphasized that these projects aim to empower the girl child, highlighting the importance of women’s education for the state’s development.

The construction will include 35 junior and 20 senior secondary schools. Governor Mutfwang assured that the projects would meet the highest standards, with rigorous supervision to ensure quality. He urged contractors to adhere strictly to the set specifications, warning that any deviations would result in sanctions.

Mohammed Nyalun, the commissioner for secondary education, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and the federal government for their support. He noted that the initiative is crucial for providing quality education in a conducive learning environment for every child in the state.

Shirinkpo Maina, the project coordinator of AGILE in Plateau, added that the projects would lay the foundation for inclusive and quality education accessible to all children, regardless of their background.
