ACU To Host 2027 NPUGA Games As Vice-Chancellor Reaffirms Commitment To Sports Development

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has announced its readiness to host the 2027 edition of the Nigeria Private University Games Association (NPUGA) sports competition.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole, disclosed this while receiving the NPUGA executive team during an initial inspection tour of the institution’s sports facilities.

Professor Oduwole assured the delegation that ACU is fully prepared to welcome athletes, officials and representatives from private universities across Nigeria for the sporting event.

She emphasised the university’s commitment to sports development, noting that successive administrations have prioritised sporting activities as part of the institution’s overall growth strategy.

“This administration and past ones are passionate about sports development,” the Vice-Chancellor said, adding that the university has a functional sports committee and a dedicated sports unit capable of supporting the successful hosting of the competition.

She encouraged the NPUGA executives to familiarise themselves with the university and the historic city of Oyo, assuring them of the hospitality they would receive during the main event.

Professor Oduwole also directed the delegation to submit formal proposals and hosting requirements, which would be presented to the university’s Governing Council and management for consideration.

The President of NPUGA, Dr. Babajide Diyaolu, and the Secretary, Mr. John Obogo, commended ACU management for its commitment to advancing university sports.

They provided details on the requirements for hosting the games and expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to deliver a successful sporting festival.

The NPUGA executives also revealed plans to return for further inspection of facilities and provide recommendations on areas that may require improvement before the event.

The Nigeria Private University Games Association provides a platform for private universities across the country to compete in various sporting events while promoting unity, teamwork and healthy competition.

The meeting was attended by the Registrar, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun; Bursar, Dr. Ayodele Olusanwo; Chairman of the ACU Sports Committee, Professor Paul Amalu; and Chief Coach, Dr. Sunday Omobhude.

Other NPUGA officials present included Mr. Emmanuel Nwakwo and Alhaji Ganiyu Adedokun.

The 2027 NPUGA Games are expected to bring together athletes and officials from private universities nationwide, further strengthening ACU’s profile in university sports development.
