Gambia Delegation In Nigeria To Study NOUN Open And Distance Learning Model

The Minister of Higher Education in The Gambia, Hon. Prof. Pierre Gomez, along with His Excellency Mohamadou Njie, Gambia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, and other senior officials of the Gambian government, are currently in Nigeria.

They are at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, to understudy Nigeria’s Open and Distance Learning, ODL, model and explore how it can be adapted to improve university education in The Gambia.

The Minister, who earlier commended Nigeria for its role in supporting The Gambia, noted the devastating impact of COVID-19 on The Gambia’s education sector. He expressed admiration for how NOUN leveraged technology to deliver uninterrupted tertiary education during the pandemic.

He specifically stated that the purpose of the visit is to examine how The Gambia can improve its university education system using Nigeria’s ODL model, as successfully implemented by NOUN.
