TASFUED Student Takes Third Place in Kiriji 140th Anniversary Essay Competition

A student of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Mr. Praise Mojibade Adekoya of the Department of Computer Science, has emerged third in the Kiriji 140th Anniversary Essay Competition, distinguishing himself among participants from universities across Nigeria and earning recognition for the University.

Adekoya, with matriculation number 20240214137, was among the three outstanding winners announced after a panel of distinguished professors and assessors completed the judging of entries for the competition, which focused on the history and enduring legacy of the historic Kiriji Peace Treaty.

Musa Abdus-Salam Oyewole of the University of Ilorin emerged first, while Ridwan Bakare of the University of Lagos took second position. Adekoya, representing TASFUED, emerged third.

The competition was organised by the Kiriji Heritage Conservation Foundation in partnership with Roving Heights as part of activities marking the 140th anniversary of the Kiriji Peace Treaty. The competition was designed to provide young scholars with an opportunity to explore and express their perspectives on the historical significance and enduring legacy of the peace treaty.

Reacting to the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor of TASFUED, Prof. Samuel Oladipo, MNPA, CMCPN, MCAN, FIELPN, congratulated Adekoya for his impressive performance and for bringing honour to the University through his intellectual accomplishment.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the student for demonstrating the academic excellence, research ability and intellectual curiosity expected of university students.

He noted that the achievement reflected TASFUED’s commitment to providing an environment that encourages students to develop their talents, participate in scholarly competitions and contribute meaningfully to national discourse.

Prof. Oladipo encouraged other students of the University to emulate Adekoya by taking advantage of opportunities that promote academic development, research, creativity and engagement with issues relating to Nigeria’s history and cultural heritage.

The Kiriji Heritage Essay Competition 2026 commemorates the 140th anniversary of the Kiriji Peace Treaty and seeks to promote historical research, critical thinking, cultural awareness and reflection on the relevance of the Kiriji peace process to peacebuilding, unity and national development in contemporary Nigeria.

The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled to hold on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), University of Ibadan, as part of the 140th Anniversary Commemoration of the Historic Kiriji Peace Treaty. The official competition schedule also lists September 21, 2026, as the date for the award presentation.

Adekoya’s achievement adds to the growing list of academic accomplishments recorded by students of TASFUED and further highlights the University’s commitment to academic excellence, research and the development of students as intellectually engaged citizens.
