Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Robbery at Ogun Student Hostel, Recover 11 Phones, Laptop

Police in Ogun State have arrested two suspects over a robbery at a student hostel in Ewekoro, recovering 11 iPhones, a laptop and other stolen items.

Two suspects, Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun, have been arrested by operatives of the Ewekoro Division of the Ogun State Police Command, who foiled a robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area.

The operatives also recovered stolen items, including eleven smart phones and a laptop.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed this in a Wednesday statement.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on 2:40 am on Sunday, following an anonymous distress call reporting that an armed gang was robbing students in their hostel within the community.

The statement reads, “Upon receiving the information, operatives of Ewekoro Division led by the Divisional Police Officer promptly dispatched to the scene.

“Sighting the police operatives, the suspects abandoned their loot in a school bag and attempted to flee.

“However, the team pursued and successfully apprehended two suspects, identified as Waris Dauda, male, and Tiamiyu Abiodun, male.”

The police said a search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of eleven assorted iPhones, one HP laptop, and various items of clothing.

Victims of the robbery have since identified their recovered property.

Babaseyi added that preliminary investigations revealed that during the robbery, the gang forced one of the victims to transfer the sum of ₦200,000 to an account.

“Detectives have visited the crime scene, documented the forced entry, and secured the recovered exhibits.

“While search warrants executed at the suspects’ residences yielded no further incriminating items, both suspects and the recovered property are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution,

“Meanwhile, active operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing gang members and locate the owner of the beneficiary account,” the statement further reads.

The command said the swift operational response underscores the its dedication to rapid reaction, student safety, and community-centered policing.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ewekoro operatives for their vigilance and timely response.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety, he assured students and residents of an unyielding resolve to protect every part of the state from criminal elements.
