UNN Releases Guidelines for 2026/2027 Post-UTME Aptitude Test, Warns Candidates Against Examination Malpractice

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has released guidelines and instructions for candidates ahead of the 2026/2027 Post-UTME Aptitude Test, warning that failure to comply with the examination requirements could lead to disqualification, cancellation of results or other sanctions.

The university stated that the Post-UTME Aptitude Test will be conducted online under remote examination surveillance and urged candidates to carefully read and comply with all instructions before and during the examination.

General instructions

The Post-UTME Aptitude Test is a competitive online examination conducted under remote examination surveillance. Every candidate is required to comply fully with the instructions throughout the examination.

Candidates must be appropriately dressed to allow clear visual identification at all times. All examination activities, including audio and video, will be continuously monitored and recorded to safeguard the integrity of the examination and for verification or investigative purposes where necessary.

Each candidate is responsible for providing and maintaining a stable and reliable internet connection before and throughout the examination.

The examination may only be taken on a laptop computer fitted with an integrated webcam and microphone. The use of mobile phones, tablets, external webcams, virtual cameras, HDMI-connected displays or any similar external devices is strictly prohibited.

Candidates must ensure that their webcam remains unobstructed throughout the examination. Any obstruction or interruption that prevents continuous visual monitoring may lead to disqualification or cancellation of the examination.

Candidates must remain seated and fully visible within the camera frame for the duration of the examination, except where otherwise authorised by the University or the examination platform.

The examination will last for 30 minutes. Timing will commence immediately after the candidate selects the “Start” button. Candidates may submit the examination after answering all the questions by clicking the “Submit” button. The examination will also be submitted automatically once the allotted time expires.

The wearing or use of face masks, face caps, including fez caps, headphones, earbuds, earpieces, wristwatches, bracelets, smart glasses or any similar wearable electronic device is prohibited. Candidates' faces and ears must remain completely visible throughout the examination.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to use their personal laptops where possible. Candidates who choose to use business centres or cybercafés do so entirely at their own risk and remain responsible for ensuring full compliance with all examination requirements, including maintaining an isolated and disturbance-free examination environment.

The examination environment must remain quiet and free from interruptions or background noise throughout the examination. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

The examination area must be adequately illuminated to enable continuous identification of the candidate. Poor lighting or inadequate visibility may result in disqualification.

Candidates may access the examination platform only on their assigned examination date and at their scheduled examination time.

Directions for accessing the examination

Step 1: Visit the UNN portal at https://unnportal.unn.edu.ng and click on the “Take PUTME Exam” link on the navigation bar to access the examination login page.

Step 2: Enter your JAMB Registration Number and Examination OTP obtained from your registration slip.

Step 3: Carefully read the instructions and click on “Start Examination.”

Step 4: Allow camera and microphone access. The candidate’s live image will be displayed on the left panel.

Step 5: Click on “Join Room” to enter the virtual examination classroom and begin the examination.

Examination misconduct

No other person is permitted to be present in or enter the candidate's immediate examination area during the examination. The presence of any unauthorised individual may constitute examination misconduct and may result in disqualification.

Any conduct amounting to impersonation, unauthorised assistance, communication with another person, use of prohibited devices, multiple logins or any other form of examination malpractice shall constitute examination misconduct.

Such misconduct may result in cancellation of the candidate's examination, withdrawal of the candidate from the screening exercise and any other disciplinary measures deemed appropriate.

Candidates must not read examination questions aloud, speak or communicate with any person or engage in any behaviour capable of compromising the integrity of the examination. Any violation may result in disqualification.

Switching of browser tabs is strictly prohibited. Candidates are permitted to have only one browser tab open throughout the examination.

The University reserves the right to review, investigate and determine all cases involving alleged technical failures, examination misconduct or breaches of the examination instructions.

Mock examination

Candidates are advised to use the same laptop computer, internet connection and examination environment intended for the actual Post-UTME Aptitude Test during the mock examination.

The Mock Examination is designed solely to verify device compatibility, browser functionality, webcam and microphone operation, internet connectivity and overall system readiness. The result of the mock examination will not be used in the final consideration of candidates.

The Mock Examination is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 22, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Prior registration on the UNN Portal and payment of a ₦1,000 fee are required to participate in the mock examination.

The actual Post-UTME examination will be conducted online on dates to be announced by the University.

How to register for the Mock Examination

a. Select the “Application for Post UTME Mock Exam” button at the top of the UNN Portal.

b. Initiate your mock examination registration by entering your JAMB Registration Number and your application Remita RRR in the required fields.

c. Preview your details and click on “GET OTP” to receive an OTP in your registered email.

d. Enter the OTP received in your email, tick the confirmation box and click the “Register for Mock Examination” button to generate your mock registration invoice.

e. Pay via Remita using your preferred payment channel.

5. After successful payment, return to the UNN portal and repeat steps a to d above to complete your registration and print your acknowledgment slip.

Candidates are advised to carefully note their examination details on the acknowledgment slip.

Additional instructions and responsibilities

Candidates are solely responsible for ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply and internet connectivity throughout the examinations.

The University shall not be liable for any loss or inconvenience arising from power failure, interruptions caused by internet service providers or any other technical issues originating from the candidate’s end of the examination.

The University reserves the right to verify the identity of any candidate before, during or after the examination. Any examination may be invalidated where the candidate's identity cannot be satisfactorily established.

Candidates shall comply with all instructions issued by the University before, during and after the examination. Ignorance of these instructions will not be accepted as an excuse for non-compliance.

The University reserves the right to suspend, postpone, reschedule or cancel the examination or any part thereof where circumstances so require, without incurring any liability.

The University also reserves the right to review, investigate and determine all cases involving alleged technical failures, examination misconduct or breaches of these instructions.

The decision of the University on all matters relating to the administration, conduct and outcome of the Post-UTME Aptitude Test shall be final and binding on all candidates.
