The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), through its School of Graduate Studies and Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG), has commenced admission into its Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Science (MSc), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Petroleum Geosciences and Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), through its School of Graduate Studies and Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG), has commenced admission into its Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Science (MSc), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Petroleum Geosciences and Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Established in 2011 as a Centre of Excellence, the CPG was created to develop highly skilled manpower for the petroleum and energy industries through industry-driven postgraduate training delivered by university lecturers and experts from the oil and gas sector.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD):

  • Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management

Master of Science (MSc):

  • Petroleum Geosciences
  • Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management (Green Energy Geosciences Option)
  • Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management (Asset Management Option)

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD):

  • Petroleum Geosciences

  • Full-time: 12 months
  • Part-time: 18 months

PhD

  • Full-time: 24 months
  • Part-time: 36 months

Mode of Study

The programmes are delivered through a hybrid modular system combining physical and online learning.

  • Full-time: Monday to Friday (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), with physical classes and real-time online conferencing.
  • Part-time: Monday to Friday (5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) online, with physical classes on Saturdays (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

Students will undertake coursework, laboratory and field training, seminars, industrial projects, and research, with examinations conducted both onsite and online.

Admission Requirements

PGD in Petroleum Geosciences

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with a minimum CGPA of 1.50/5.0 in relevant disciplines, or
  • An HND with at least Upper Credit in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, or Geo-mining Technology.
  • HND holders with Lower Credit and relevant oil and gas industry experience may also apply.
  • Nigerian applicants must possess an NYSC discharge certificate.

PGD in Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree or HND (Upper Credit) in Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences, or Management, with relevant experience in the energy industry.

MSc in Petroleum Geosciences

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.0/5.0, or
  • A PGD with at least Credit (or Merit plus relevant industry experience) in relevant disciplines.

MSc in Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree or PGD (Credit) in Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences, or Management, with at least three years' experience in the energy industry.

PhD in Petroleum Geosciences

Applicants must possess:

  • A Master's degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.5/5.0 in Petroleum Geosciences or related disciplines, with relevant industry experience where applicable.

Application Fee

  • ₦30,000 (Nigerian applicants)
  • US$65 (International applicants)

Payments should be made through the Remita platform via the UNIPORT payment portal.

  4. Generate a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR).
  5. Make payment online or at any commercial bank.

  • Aptitude test and oral interview: 5–9 October 2026
