A 25-year-old Jos-based model, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” reportedly d+ed after he was allegedly t%rtured and be@ten by a group of youths who accused him of stealing a mobile phone in Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Sunday at an off-campus apartment behind the City of David area along Ring Road, Jos. Mbaya, a University of Jos graduate who was resolving an outstanding academic issue, had attended a social event before spending the night at a friend’s apartment because it was too late to return home.
The following morning, his friend allegedly told him an iPhone was missing and accused him of being the prime suspect since they were the only occupants of the room. Although he initially left, Mbaya reportedly returned after being called back to explain himself.
On his return, he was allegedly confronted by his friend and other youths, who accused him of stealing the phone. Witnesses said the group brutally a§§aulted him with sticks and other objects for hours in an attempt to force a confession until he became unconscious. A nurse later examined him and reportedly confirmed he had d+ed.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying three suspects Rinji Daniel Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear and Nensemka Fwanji — have been arrested over the alleged culpable h%micide. One suspect was allegedly captured in a viral video striking the deceased with a large wooden plank. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.
Reacting to the incident, former Acting President of NANS, Prince Miaphen, described the alleged k+lling as “barbaric and unacceptable,” calling for a thorough investigation and justice for everyone involved. The police also condemned jungle justice, warning that anyone who takes the law into their own hands will face prosecution.
