Tetfund Monitoring Team Visits UNIMAID To Assess Academic Staff Scholarship Programme

The University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, on Monday, August 3, 2026, received a monitoring and verification team from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, on an official visit to assess the implementation of the Fund's Academic Staff Scholarship Programme.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Central Administration, Professor Babagana Bako, welcomed the delegation and expressed profound appreciation to TETFund for its continuous support to the University in the areas of staff development, research, and academic advancement.
Professor Bako noted that the TETFund Academic Staff Scholarship Scheme has significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of teaching and research at the University by providing vital opportunities for academic staff to pursue postgraduate studies.
He urged the monitoring and verification team to carry out a thorough and objective assessment of the scholarship programme, stressing that the exercise would help identify areas where TETFund could further strengthen its intervention. He also encouraged the committee to freely monitor the implementation of the scheme and make actionable recommendations on areas where the Fund can provide additional support for the benefit of the University.
Earlier in her remarks, the Team Leader of the TETFund Monitoring and Verification Committee, Dr. Aisha Aliyu Shehu, explained that the purpose of the visit was to monitor the implementation of the Academic Staff Scholarship Programme, with a particular emphasis on postgraduate beneficiaries.
She stated that the exercise was aimed at evaluating the overall progress of the scholarship scheme, identifying challenges encountered by the beneficiaries, and determining areas where TETFund could improve its interventions to ensure the programme successfully achieves its intended objectives.
Dr. Aisha Shehu expressed appreciation to the University Management for the warm reception accorded to the delegation and commended the institution for its full cooperation throughout the monitoring exercise.
