FEDPOFFA Rector, Dr. Kadiri, Appointed to Ministerial Committee on Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Tertiary Institutions
The Rector of The Federal Polytechnic Offa, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, has been appointed a member of a high-powered Ministerial Committee on Strengthening the Accreditation and Quality Assurance System for Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, CON.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated 1st September 2026, signed by the Honourable Minister, in which Dr. Kadiri was also invited to the inauguration of the Committee. The Committee, according to the Minister, is part of the Federal Government’s determination to strengthen the quality, integrity and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education system through a more credible, transparent, sustainable and effective accreditation and quality assurance regime.
The Minister noted that while the existing accreditation framework had contributed significantly to maintaining minimum academic standards across tertiary institutions, recent developments had exposed practices and systemic weaknesses requiring urgent attention. Of particular concern, the Minister stated, was the practice whereby institutions temporarily mobilise or borrow academic staff, equipment, laboratory facilities, library resources, vehicles and other materials solely for accreditation exercises, as well as the temporary deployment or presentation of personnel to satisfy prescribed staff-student ratios and staff-mix requirements.
According to the letter, such practices could undermine the integrity of the accreditation process by creating an appearance of compliance that might not reflect the actual and sustainable capacity of an institution to deliver the relevant academic programme after an accreditation exercise.

The Federal Government, the Minister stressed, was therefore determined to strengthen the existing system through more robust verification mechanisms, digitalisation, integrated institutional data, independent assessment, risk-based monitoring and continuous quality assurance. Accreditation, he emphasised, must increasingly become a process that verifies the actual, verifiable and sustainable capacity of institutions rather than their ability to demonstrate temporary compliance during scheduled accreditation visits.
The Committee is consequently mandated to examine the entire accreditation cycle, including institutional preparation and submission of data, verification, accreditation visits, decision-making, post-accreditation monitoring and re-accreditation.
Notably, Dr. Kadiri's appointment comes against the backdrop of his extensive experience in Technical education, academic administration, quality assurance and institutional development. The Rector is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and numerous professional bodies and serves as a resource person for the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). His professional profile also reflects considerable experience in academic assessment and institutional administration.
His appointment is also significant for The Federal Polytechnic Offa, which under his leadership has placed strong emphasis on academic standards, accreditation, digital transformation, skills development, innovation and institutional repositioning. The Polytechnic's official profile describes Dr. Kadiri as its fifth substantive Rector and highlights his background as an Electrical and Electronic Engineer with specialisation in Networking and Telecommunication.
The Ministerial Committee comprises prominent academics, education administrators, regulatory officials and some heads of tertiary institutions from across the country, with Professor Ishaq Oloyede, former Registrar of JAMB, listed as Chairman.
Dr. Kadiri is listed as members alongside Executive Secretaries of NUC, NBTE, NCCE, Vice-Chancellors, Professors, senior most regulatory officials and other education stakeholders, underscoring the national significance of the assignment. The Committee is expected to commence work immediately.
A recognition of expertise and Institutional leadership, Dr. Kadiri's appointment to the Committee represents not only a recognition of his personal expertise and experience but also a reflection of the growing profile of The Federal Polytechnic Offa within Nigeria's tertiary education landscape.
The Rector has in recent years championed a technology driven and innovation oriented leadership philosophy at the Polytechnic, with the institution recording developments in skills acquisition, digitalisation, research commercialisation, strategic partnerships, infrastructure and entrepreneurship. The published profile of his administration describes this approach as part of its broader drive towards global relevance.
The Federal Polytechnic Offa therefore congratulates Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin on this national assignment and expresses confidence that his experience, professional competence and understanding of the technical education sector will contribute meaningfully to the Committee's mandate and to the Federal Government's efforts to reposition accreditation and quality assurance in Nigeria's tertiary institutions.
The appointment further reinforces the growing recognition of The Federal Polytechnic Offa as an institution with a voice and stake in shaping the future of Technical and Tertiary education in Nigeria.
