Universities Brace for Potential Strike as Federal Government postpones meeting with ASUU

he planned meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), initially scheduled for today (Monday), has been postponed. The meeting, which aimed to address critical issues and prevent another ASUU strike, will no longer take place as previously announced by the Minister of Education, according to Emmanuel Osodeke, President of ASUU.

Although no specific reason was given for the delay, both parties are now rescheduling the meeting for Wednesday, August 28.

ASUU’s demands include:

Renegotiated Agreement: Review and signing of the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement.

Funding: Adequate funding, including the Emergency Revitalization Fund for public universities.

Academic Allowances: Payment of outstanding earned academic allowances.

Salaries and Arrears: Release of withheld salaries and promotion arrears.

Strike Looms: ASUU has issued a 21-day ultimatum to address these issues. If unresolved, further actions may be taken after the notice period
