Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), has inaugurated its newly elected Students’ Union Executive Council (SU EXCO) and Students’ Representative Assembly (SRA) for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Academic Publishing Centre, Main Campus, saw Comrade Musa Ibrahim Muhammad assume office as the new Students’ Union President.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, charged the new student leaders to prioritise peace, students’ welfare, accountability and the uninterrupted conduct of academic activities throughout their tenure.
Professor Kuta described student leadership as a responsibility centred on service and urged the executives to work constructively with university management while using appropriate channels to present students’ concerns. He also warned students against spreading unverified information on social media, noting that misinformation could create tension on campus.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged eligible students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme and advised those experiencing refund-related challenges to contact the university’s Bursary Department.
The Chairman of the Students’ Union Independent Electoral Committee (SUIEC), Professor Adamu Yusuf Kabiru, described the July 18 election as peaceful, transparent and credible but expressed concern over the low voter turnout. He urged students to participate more actively in future elections.
In his acceptance speech, the new SU President, Musa Ibrahim Muhammad, pledged to run a transparent, inclusive and responsive administration focused on students’ welfare. He identified accommodation, security and safety as key priorities and promised to work with relevant authorities to address students’ concerns.
The new administration is expected to balance effective representation and welfare advocacy with the need to preserve a peaceful environment that supports teaching, learning and research at FUT Minna.
