FG Declares October 1 Public Holiday for 66th Independence Anniversary

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, as public holiday to mark the nation's 66th Independence Day anniversary.
The declaration was contained in a statement by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Nigerians on the commemoration of this year's anniversary.
Consequently, universities and other public institutions across the country will be closed for official and academic activities on Thursday, October 1, 2026. However, members of staff on special duties are expected to report to work during the public holiday.
All members of staff are to resume duties on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure and Management have wished all staff happy and peaceful Independence Day celebrations.
