FULafia Seeks Partnership With Nigerian Institute of Architects to Strengthen Architecture Education

The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has called for closer collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Nasarawa State Chapter, to enhance architectural education, professional training and accreditation.

The appeal was made by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Partnerships), Professor Ibrahim Ogiri Hassan, while receiving the Chairman of the institute, Dr. Allan Joseph Usman, and other officials during a courtesy visit to his office.

Professor Hassan described the visit as timely, noting that the University's Faculty of Architecture requires sustained support from professional bodies to achieve its academic and professional objectives.

He said a partnership with the institute would strengthen teaching, mentorship, accreditation and industry exposure for students, stressing that architecture education cannot thrive in isolation.

According to him, the faculty currently offers programmes in Architecture, Building, Quantity Surveying, Urban and Regional Planning, Industrial Design, Glass and Silicate Technology, and Geography and Environmental Management.

Professor Hassan appealed to the institute to support the faculty through voluntary teaching, mentorship, industrial training opportunities and accreditation processes to better prepare students for professional practice.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Nasarawa State Chapter, Dr. (Arch.) Allan Joseph Usman, said the visit was aimed at deepening collaboration between the institute and the University.

He reaffirmed the institute's commitment to providing mentorship, professional guidance and other initiatives that would strengthen the training and development of future architects.
