The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Professor Leo Daniel, led the university’s delegation of practicing engineers and engineering academics to the 34th Engineering Assembly organised by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in Abuja.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Professor Leo Daniel, led the university’s delegation of practicing engineers and engineering academics to the 34th Engineering Assembly organised by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in Abuja.

The 2026 COREN Assembly was held at the Velodrome, Constitution Avenue, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, from Monday, July 13 to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Themed “Advancing Public Safety in Nigeria through Strategic Engineering Regulation, Enforcement and a Tiered Sanctioning Regime,” the assembly focused on strengthening engineering practice, regulatory compliance, and public safety across the country.

FUTIA said the participation of its engineers and the university’s continued membership subscription to COREN reflect its commitment to institutional governance, professionalism, adherence to engineering ethics, codes of practice, and the regulatory framework guiding the teaching, learning, and practice of engineering programmes as a specialised university of technology.

Following the successful conclusion of the assembly, the Vice Chancellor conveyed the goodwill and congratulations of the university’s management and staff to the leadership and members of COREN, led by its President, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, for hosting the 34th Engineering Assembly in the nation’s capital.

Professor Leo Daniel is recognised as Nigeria’s first Professor of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. He is a distinguished scholar and engineering academic with memberships and fellowships in several professional bodies, including the Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS), Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AFAIAA), European Engineer (Eur. Ing), Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), Chartered Scientist (C.Sci), Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and a registered member of COREN, among others.

Other members of the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology who attended the assembly included Engr. Dr. Kufre E. Jack, Acting Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, and Engr. Dr. Timothy Balogon, Acting Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and COREN Resource Person/Examiner.

Also in attendance were the Acting Director of Works, Engr. Anietie Ekanem, Engr. Umana Udoh, Engr. Ubong Enang, and other practicing engineers and staff of the university.
