IBB University Management Vows Action Against Hostel Accommodation Racketeering

The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL), Lapai, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups involved in the illegal sale and "racketeering" of hostel accommodations for the new academic session.

In a press statement released on January 7, 2026, the university expressed dismay over reports of exploitative groups who specialize in securing bed spaces only to resell them at exorbitant rates to unsuspecting students, particularly newly admitted freshmen.

The university administration described the trend as an "ugly development" that short-changes vulnerable students. In response, the Student Affairs Division has been officially directed to launch a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend those spearheading these activities.

The statement, signed by the Deputy Registrar of Information, Alhaji Baba Akote, clarified that the university’s disciplinary measures would target all parties involved in the illicit trade.

"Anyone caught, both the seller and the buyer, will accordingly face the wrath of the University Management, as stringent measures are to be taken against them," the statement warned.
