IBBUL Senate Approves Revised Academic Calendar, With Pro-Chancellor in Attendance

The Senate of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, has approved revised 2025/2026 academic calendar, following exhaustive deliberations at its 24th Emergency Meeting, with Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. Sheikh Abdullah, in attendance, urging staff and management to strengthen dialogue, unity and industrial harmony.

Revised calendar, presented by Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Kabir Muhammad Adamu, was carefully considered by members before receiving Senate approval.

Decision is expected to provide clear framework for continuation of academic activities and completion of 2025/2026 session.

In opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, welcomed Pro-Chancellor to expanded Senate session and sought members' approval for him to address Senate after consideration of calendar.

He said Pro-Chancellor's experience would be valuable in strengthening cooperation between Management, Senate and university's in-house unions

Prof. Sulaiman disclosed Pro-Chancellor was scheduled to meet with leadership of in-house unions to engage them on issues affecting University and explore possible solutions.

He expressed optimism engagements would further consolidate peace and stability at IBBUL and position institution for sustained development.

Speaking to Senate, Prof. Abdullah commended both academic and non-academic staff for dedication and collective efforts in maintaining stable environment for teaching, learning and administration.

He said progress of University depended largely on ability of Management, Senate, unions and other stakeholders to work together rather than operate in isolation.

Pro-Chancellor urged stakeholders to avoid ego, division and unnecessary confrontation, stressing importance of dialogue and collective bargaining in resolving differences. He described Senate as "centre of gravity" of University and called on all stakeholders to preserve its integrity while working together to advance institution.

Prof. Abdullah also challenged staff to distinguish themselves through contributions, professionalism and conduct, rather than relying solely on academic or administrative titles.

He urged university community to pursue excellence and compete positively with other institutions while avoiding conflicts that could undermine stability and development of IBBUL.
