Kashim Ibrahim University Welcomes Nursing and Midwifery Council for Accreditation of Nursing Department

Kashim Ibrahim University has welcomed a delegation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for the accreditation assessment of its Nursing Department.

Speaking during the exercise, the leader of the delegation, Dr Amina Ahmed, said the team was in the University as part of its national assignment to assess facilities, manpower, clinical training areas and other requirements for the Nursing programme.

Dr Ahmed appreciated the University for its hospitality and cooperation, explaining that the delegation was at the institution to review what is on ground, identify areas requiring attention and make recommendations to strengthen the programme.

She said the team had gone round the University and visited various facilities and clinical sites, noting that what was on ground was commendable and that the University had put a lot in place.

She, however, urged management to pay attention to some identified areas to further improve the programme, create a conducive environment for students and motivate staff.

The delegation also visited clinical training areas, including the General Hospital and Yerwa Primary Health Care Centre. Dr Ahmed noted that while there were manpower challenges in some clinical areas, the facilities showed good potential for effective training. She commended the Yerwa Primary Health Care Centre as clean and suitable for practical training and expressed satisfaction with the laboratory facilities.

She commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti, and the management for the development and organisation of the institution, noting that staff had valid licences to practise.

Responding, Professor Gutti welcomed the delegation and thanked the Council for conducting the exercise. He explained that the modern equipment and facilities were not acquired solely for accreditation but were part of the Borno State Government's commitment to ensuring quality education and appropriate learning facilities for medical students.

He assured that the University would promptly address areas identified for improvement, reiterating management's commitment to continuous improvement and quality training.

Professor Gutti also highlighted the University's digital transformation initiatives to improve teaching, learning and administration, and disclosed that the Borno State Government Teaching Hospital would soon be commissioned, describing it as one of the major teaching hospitals in Nigeria that would significantly enhance clinical training.

He reiterated the University's commitment to working closely with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and other professional bodies to continuously improve training quality.

The accreditation forms part of the University's efforts to strengthen its health sciences programmes and provide quality academic and clinical training.
