KHAIRUN IIQS Explores History of Qur'anic Writing and Printing in Nigeria Through the Ages

The International Institute of Qur'anic Sciences (IIQS), Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), has held its monthly lecture series with a lecture themed Writing of the Holy Qur'an in Nigeria and Its Printing Through the Ages.

The lecture provided a scholarly platform for reflecting on the rich history, development and preservation of Qur'anic writing and printing in Nigeria, as well as the contributions of scholars and Islamic institutions to the promotion of Qur'anic knowledge.

In his opening remarks, the Director of the Institute, Prof. Sani Musa Ayagi, spoke on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, and conveyed the Vice-Chancellor's apologies for his inability to attend. He extended the Vice-Chancellor's prayers and goodwill to organisers, scholars and participants, while commending the Institute for sustaining the monthly lecture series.

The lead presentation was delivered by Sayyadi Mustapha Aliyu Ayyub, who provided an extensive exposition on the subject. He traced the historical development of Qur'anic writing and its evolution over the years, highlighting significant milestones in the preservation, documentation and eventual printing of the Holy Qur'an in Nigeria.

The lecture was further enriched by contributions from experienced Ulama and specialists in the art of Qur'anic writing and recitation. Sheikh Barhama Ayyub shared historical perspectives, particularly highlighting the contributions of early scholars and founding fathers who played significant roles in promoting and preserving the tradition of writing and teaching the Holy Qur'an in Nigeria.

The discussion also recognised the remarkable contribution of the founder of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu, whose commitment to Qur'anic education, scholarship and preservation of Islamic heritage continues to inspire initiatives such as the International Institute of Qur'anic Sciences.
