MAU Management Bans Unapproved Student Protest Over Fatal Accidents Around Campus

The Management of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, has banned any planned protest by students following recent fatal accidents involving heavy trucks and Keke NAPEP around the University Taxi Parks and Gates.

In a General Circular dated 6th September, 2026, signed by the Registrar, Mustafa Usman Migawa, the University expressed concern over the incidents which led to the death of students and non-students. The Management commiserated with the families of the bereaved and the Student Union Government, SUG, over the losses.

According to the circular, the University Management is working with relevant federal and state government agencies to address the situation and ensure that such occurrences are prevented.

The circular stated that the Management received reports that some students, under the guise of the SUG, were planning a protest over the accidents. It noted that such incidents were not caused by the actions or inactions of the University.

The Management emphasized that all protests, for whatever reason, must receive approval and authorization from the University Management and relevant security agencies, including the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services, DSS. It warned that any unapproved or unauthorized protest shall be considered an act of misconduct and treated accordingly.

The circular further stated that any student who participates in a protest that disrupts lectures, academic activities, or undermines peace and security on campus or within the University community will do so at their own risk.

The Management directed that lectures and all academic activities shall continue as scheduled. Students were advised to focus on their studies in preparation for the forthcoming second-semester examinations and to allow the University Management to handle issues relating to the accidents around the University.

The Chief Security Officer and the Dean of Student Affairs have been directed to report any student found in violation of the directive to the University Management for appropriate action.
