McPherson University Inducts 61 Computing Graduates into CPN, Urges Professional Excellence

McPherson University has inducted 61 graduates from its College of Computing into the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), marking their formal entry into Nigeria’s professional computing community.

The induction ceremony, held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, featured graduates from the Departments of Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Software Engineering, who were recognised for successfully completing their academic training and attaining professional status.

Addressing the inductees, the Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, Professor Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, congratulated the graduates on the achievement, describing the induction as a reflection of their dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence.

Professor Igbasan charged the new computing professionals to uphold the University’s core values of Knowledge, Integrity, and Service as they advance in their careers. He encouraged them to maintain high ethical standards, embrace continuous learning, and remain innovative in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the University’s growing international collaborations, particularly its Erasmus+ Mobility Programme partnership with Karabuk University, Türkiye. He explained that the partnership has created opportunities for student and staff exchanges, joint research, and knowledge sharing in areas such as Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Machine Learning.

He noted that such initiatives reflect McPherson University’s commitment to providing global exposure and equipping students with relevant skills to compete in the technology-driven global economy.

In his remarks, the Acting Dean of the College of Computing, Dr. Falade Adesola, described the induction as a significant transition from academic training into professional practice.

He commended the graduates for successfully completing rigorous academic activities, including laboratory sessions, software development projects, research exercises, industrial attachments, and examinations. He urged them to continue pursuing excellence and contributing positively to Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Dr. Falade reminded the new professionals that membership of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria comes with responsibilities, including maintaining professional ethics, protecting data privacy, respecting intellectual property rights, promoting cybersecurity, and committing to lifelong learning.

Delivering the induction lecture titled “Stepping into the Universe from the University: Navigating Purpose, Professionalism, and Possibilities,” Professor Olufade F. W. Onifade of the University of Ibadan advised the graduates to view graduation as the beginning of a lifelong journey of growth, innovation, and societal contribution.

Professor Onifade encouraged them to become problem solvers and ethical technology leaders capable of adapting to emerging technologies while maintaining values such as integrity, creativity, empathy, and sound judgement. He also urged them to embrace Artificial Intelligence responsibly and use technology to develop solutions that improve lives.

The highlight of the event was the formal induction of the 61 graduates into the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, signifying their readiness to practise as professional computing experts.

Parents and guardians were recognised for their support throughout the graduates’ academic journey, while the inductees were reminded that they now represent both the CPN and McPherson University wherever they serve.

The ceremony further reinforced McPherson University’s commitment to producing academically equipped, professionally competent, and globally competitive graduates capable of contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.
