McPherson University recently hosted the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) for the accreditation of its Medical Laboratory Science programme in the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, College of Allied Health Sciences.

The exercise is part of the Council’s mandate to ensure compliance with professional and academic standards in medical laboratory education across Nigeria.

The accreditation team, led by Professor Charles Onyenekwe of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, included Dr. Akinwale Akinlabi, Director of Education at MLSCN, Dr. Adesola Olalekan from the University of Lagos, and Mrs. Okonji Lauretta from MLSCN Lagos Office. Their assessment covered academic facilities, curriculum delivery, laboratory resources, staffing, and overall adherence to national benchmarks.

Professor Onyenekwe described the visit as a standard peer-review exercise aimed at strengthening programme quality. Observations and recommendations made during the assessment are intended to further enhance the programme and ensure alignment with national best practices.

In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Igbasan welcomed the team and reaffirmed McPherson University’s commitment to continuous improvement, emphasizing the institution’s focus on producing graduates who are both nationally relevant and globally competitive.

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), established under Act 11 of 2003, regulates medical laboratory services, practitioner licensing, training, and in-vitro diagnostics (IVDs) in Nigeria, with a mandate to uphold high standards and quality healthcare delivery nationwide.

This accreditation underscores McPherson University’s dedication to academic excellence, regulatory compliance, and professional relevance in health sciences.
