Students of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa State, have raised concerns over a sharp increase in hostel accommodation fees, describing the adjustment as financially unbearable and poorly communicated.
The fee, which previously stood at ₦15,000, has reportedly been increased to about ₦60,090 per session, representing a fourfold rise that has triggered widespread dissatisfaction across the student body.
According to affected students, the increment came without corresponding improvements in hostel infrastructure or living conditions, with room occupancy levels reportedly unchanged. This has intensified perceptions that the adjustment lacks operational justification.

Several students also allege difficulties in securing hostel spaces despite making payments under the new fee structure, further compounding frustrations over what they describe as administrative opacity in the allocation process.
The development has also placed additional pressure on families, with some students noting that the sudden hike has created financial tension at home, as parents struggle to reconcile the new charges with existing economic realities.
As of the time of reporting, the university has yet to issue a comprehensive public explanation addressing the rationale behind the revised fee structure or the concerns raised by students.
