The wife of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Prof. Uche Azikiwe, has expressed profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for honouring and perpetuating the legacy of the great Zik of Africa.

The wife of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Prof. Uche Azikiwe, has expressed profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for honouring and perpetuating the legacy of the great Zik of Africa.

Prof. Azikiwe made this known while receiving the Vice-Chancellor and his management team at her residence in Onitsha on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She described the visit as heartwarming and commendable, noting that it brought her immense joy to welcome individuals committed to recognising and celebrating her late husband’s monumental contributions to education, nation-building, and humanity.

She expressed optimism about the University’s trajectory, praying that its rapid growth would soon position UNIZIK among the leading universities globally. Prof. Azikiwe also shared the family’s plans to revive the Nnamdi Azikiwe Foundation, a non-governmental organization, and invited the University to take an active role in its initiatives.

In response, Prof. Anyaehie thanked Prof. Azikiwe for the warm reception and described Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe as a personal inspiration and a towering figure whose visionary leadership and passion for education remain unmatched.

The Vice-Chancellor further revealed plans to institute the African Zik Leadership Fellowship, a programme aimed at nurturing future leaders across Africa in honour of the late statesman. Additionally, he announced plans to establish a Zik’s Garden within the University to further immortalize his legacy.

Prof. Anyaehie noted the unique significance of sharing the same birthday with Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, describing the visit as the most meaningful and fulfilling since assuming office.

Members of the Vice-Chancellor’s team included the Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hilda Osisioma; the Registrar, Dr. Chinyere Gloria Okeke; the Bursar, Mr. Gozie Egwuatu; the University Librarian, Prof. Stella Anasi; the Ag. Public Relations Officer, Mr. Njelita Louis; the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor on New Media, Ekene Ezeumeanya; and the Special Assistant on Administration, Mr. MacAnthony Obiezeani, among others.
