UCH Ibadan Commemorates World Hepatitis Day 2026 With Free Screening and Symposium

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit in the Department of Medicine at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, paid a courtesy visit to Management on 28th July, 2026 at the boardroom of the hospital to mark the 2026 World Hepatitis Day.
This year’s theme is "It's Time to Take Action."
The Team Lead, Dr. Temitope Oke, said that every July 28 is observed as World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that can lead to severe liver disease and liver cancer.
He stated that free screening for hepatitis is ongoing at the Medical Out Patient, MOP, Clinic, and that a symposium on hepatitis was also held at the hospital clinics.
Dr. Oke appreciated the partners of the programme: Mega Life Sciences, Worldwide Healthcare, and Philips Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, warmly appreciated the team and urged them to sustain the campaign on hepatitis, noting that people are still ignorant of the disease despite it being an ancient illness.
He explained that early detection, vaccination, and proper treatment remain key to preventing complications and eliminating viral hepatitis in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
