UCH Ibadan Makes History with First Neuronavigation Spine Surgery

The University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, has successfully performed its first Neuronavigation Spine Surgery on 25th February, 2026 at the Main Theatre of the hospital.

According to Prof. Abiodun Adeolu, Head of the Neurosurgical Department, Neuronavigation Spine Surgery is a cutting-edge procedure that uses advanced imaging like a GPS to guide surgeons with pinpoint precision.

He further emphasized that this milestone for UCH means safer operations, greater precision and better outcomes for patients.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, congratulated the Neurosurgical team, stating that “it is a victory for all.”

He added that “the breakthrough is a major leap for healthcare in Nigeria that is set to change patients’ care.”
