VC Leads MAU Delegation to Cameroon to Drive Academic Collaboration and Student Outreach

In a bid to strengthen international academic collaboration and expand the university’s global presence, the Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, last week led a management delegation to the Republic of Cameroon.

The visit, focused on sensitizing final-year secondary school students in Maroua, Garoua and Ngaoundere on the academic opportunities available at the university and encouraging them to pursue their undergraduate studies at Modibbo Adama University, Yola.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the University Librarian, Prof. Zainab Mohammed Abdullahi; the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Prof. Shaibu Mishelia; the Director, Centre for Distance Learning, Prof. Mukhtar Yahaya Magaji; and the Head of Department, Educational Foundations who also the contact person, Dr. Aminu Chiroma, among others.

During the engagements, the delegation showcased the university’s undergraduate and newly introduced programmes, while also highlighting available facilities and student support services, including accommodation, affordable tuition, and the institution’s 24-hour solar-powered electricity supply.

As part of the visit, the delegation paid courtesy calls on the Governors of Maroua and Ngaoundere, where discussions centered on strengthening educational cooperation and fostering stronger institutional relationships between Nigeria and Cameroon.

The delegation also visited Universities of Maroua Garoua and Ngaoundere to further deepen existing academic partnerships following the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between the institutions. 

Discussions focused on postgraduate co-supervision between the Universities, staff exchange programmes, and broader academic collaboration, particularly for Cameroonian postgraduate students currently studying at the Modibbo Adama University.

Another major outcome of the engagement was the planned introduction of a Diploma Certificate in French Language at the university (MAU, Yola), expected to commence within the next three months. 

The programme, is aimed at supporting individuals and professionals with academic or business interests in French-speaking countries, especially Cameroon, as well as anyone interested in learning the French language.

The visit was described as fruitful and impactful, reflecting the university administration’s commitment to positioning Modibbo Adama University as a centre for international academic excellence and regional collaboration.
